Heat cast iron skillet to smoking. Add bacon fat and melt and then pour in batter. Place pan on 350 oven and leave alone until golden brown on top. Sprinkle cheese and sea salt on top and drizzle with olive oil.

Streusel Topping

Flour, butter, sugar…kneaded together….the warmth of my hands softening the butter as I went.

streusel top

Diced pears, brown sugar, amaretto liquer, salt, ground star anise in a baking dish topped with the above.

Baked at 300 until the streusel browns.

Drizzled with bitter sweet chocolate sauce after dinner with new friends.

Pick it up…..

I forgot to pack lunch today so I head over and grab some chili from the salad bar place across the way. I get on line to pay.

Woman on line behind me: I’ve never tried the chili here. Is it any good?

Me: Usually, but I generally prefer to make my own.

WOLBM: Really?

Me: Yeah, just need a crock pot and you’re good to go.

WOLBM: I’m sure you have a girlfriend for that.

Me:……Um, well, I’d prefer to have a husband.

WOBM: ……oh! Yeah… um.. me too!

Yesterday I snagged some radishes at the farmer’s market. They are currently roasting with some mushrooms and garlic olive oil. I just tested one and the bitter flavor is gone. They’re sweet and spicey and just oh so good.
